**NEWS FLASH**ROOSEVELT ISLAND NY**JUNE 19TH 2010**
**THE 7TH DISTRICT MASONIC ID PROGRAM STRUCK AGAIN**

On a beautiful Saturday the residents on Roosevelt Island held its annual community day.  Downtown Main Street on the island was the setting.  Over 20 vendors set up offering free concessions like amusement rides, petting zoo, snow cones, donuts, food, drinks & coffee just to name a few.  Local business’s sponsored the day and the hospitality of the community was just overwhelming.
Our Districts Masonic ID service was requested and 10-15 men from the 7th and several from the 2nd districts answered the call to help.  Some who were in attendance - Lane Farber, Michael Adler, Steven Gerwitz, Dan Eckman, Steven Bank, Jon Pufahl & Bill Sohni, of the 7th district.  Steve Rosen, Max Robkoff & Zack Rawlings of the 2nd district Cornerstone lodge 178 joined us.  Chris Gerwitz, Brian Gerwitz & Christopher Menedes who are Boy Scouts did a great job.  Ivan Boluarte of the Metro District Masonic ID Program came by to help as well.
Roosevelt Island community leaders were extremely pleased that we had come to provide the service of our ID program to the residents.  We were visited by the island assembly member and other leaders who expressed the value of our ID program and the importance in the safety of our children.  Thanks to Carol Tanjutco of Roosevelt Island who got us into the festival and provided us the space with tables.
During the 5 hours we were open I watched all of the dedicated volunteers sit down and work without breaks and a quick lunch. (provided by DDGM RW Bill Sohni 7th district).  We had a steady wave of parents and kids the entire day who at sometimes were a little stressed.  Our men handled themselves in an extremely professional manor that I just had to mention.
We processed over 100 kids throughout the day.  Considering we had lost power for a period and had to run back up on 2 systems it is outstanding.  This was a great day, we all walked away feeling a sense of accomplishment.  I will be working with the community again to offer the program at future events.
To all the volunteers of the Masonic ID Program I thank you for your hard work.  You made it a huge success!  THIS IS WHY I JOINED MASONERY!
